LidarPredict – Crowd Management for Smart Visitor Control

The terrible images of the 2010 Love Parade in Duisburg are still fresh in people’s minds. From a density of six people per square meter, the risk increases sharply that one can no longer move freely. There is then a danger that individuals will simply be swept along by the crowd and lose control of their direction of movement. Modern crowd management can help prevent this.

To make mass events safer, Blickfeld is participating in the “LidarPredict” project. Together with partners like the people counting experts EvoCount, we are developing LiDAR-based technology to understand the behavior and dynamics of crowds, anticipate hazards, and initiate timely countermeasures such as smart visitor control. The solution will be tested at a festival.

LidarPredict is funded by mFUND, an innovation initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMDV) that promotes research and development projects related to digital data-based applications for future mobility. TÜV Rheinland is responsible for overall project coordination.

The kick-off meeting for project LidarPredict took place in December 2022 as a hybrid event at the Blickfeld office in Munich. Find more details about LidarPredict on the website of the BMDV (German):
